Week 10: 11–11–11 Na Mele O No Kaua Weli
BOT:
Aloha Ahi Ahi UFOhana. Here we are, in the middle of the week, facing our 11th UFO Ukulele Night Anniversary. Yes, that’s right we’ve been doing this now for 11 Fun-tastic Years!
So, in honor of those 11 years, I’ve decided that we should celebrate by doing “Songs of our Roots”. In other words Hawaiian Music and Hawaiian Foods. We started our Kanikapila because of a desire to learn the Songs of Hawai’i and the foods of Hawai’i just naturally came along with that desire.
Our initial UFOhana night started off pretty small, 2 maybe 3 people at first, then growing to about 10 or so and now . . . well you know. The format of the evening changed from playing along to CDs to where we are now. It’s hard to believe we’ve been doing it now for 11 years and I’m hoping that we have at least 11 more to go!
K’den, so please do think of a favorite Hawaiian song you’d like to perform and DO please post your IR’s (Incoming Rations) so we all don’t end up with 100 SPAM Musubi . . . not that that’s a bad thing . . .
Here are last week’s images, Mahalo to Linaka for helping out with these in Donna’s absence.
Below Left: Scott gets the ‘Baby’ in the King Cake from Marion (all the way from New Orleans!), Mahalo Marion! Btw, this means that Scott has to bring dessert for next Fat Tuesday. . .
Above: Uncle Bud returns! And he does a beautiful rendition of Beguine the Beguine too.
Below: Images of Aunty Val’s Hula Debut! Not bad for only 8 lessons, Mahalo Aunty for sharing and Amy for encouraging.
Below: Images from Kathy Quan’s ‘Heart and Seoul’ Concert . . .
Above right: No, that’s not Kathy’s Raven!

Congratulations to the Medinas for the big ONE-ONE anniversary! We've been coming since about the 3rd anniversary and it gets better all the time. Don't know what we would do without our weekly Church of the Ukulele meetings. Amy and I fell blessed to be a part of such an amazing 'ohana. You are all very special to us. Kden, we will be bringing something heart healthy, probably a salad. Eat your veggies!!!

Mahalo Nui Brudda Bu and Ami'E! I like that 'Church of the Ukulele', though for a while there, when we had some hard(er) times, we almost became the 'Church of the Repossessed" ! But with all your and the Ohana's good Mana we worked through it all . . . we are blessed as well to have be part of such a caring Ohana . . .
K'den eat your veggies!

We are truly blessed to be part of the Del/Pua/Lucas Ohana! I'm so thankful to Al for introducing the ukulele to me and especially getting to know all of you! What a wonderful gift! I will miss this big 11th anniversary celebration, due to arthroscopic surgery on my knee (friday a.m.), but will be there in spirit --- love to all! xoxo

We are so lucky to be a part of this great ohana -- made so by the generosity and leadership of Del and Pua, combined with the talents and mana of the members. We treasure you all.
We will land with some coconut shrimp, and if not a song for you on stage, at least one in our hearts.

Mahalo Wa'li and Malama for all the Aloha you give to our UFOhana. We have definitely come a long way and couldn't have created PIKO without you, the PIKO Ali'i Board's help.

It’s quite an accomplishment that you’ve shared your love of music and Hawaii (and other music genres) with friends both new and old nearly every Friday night for 11 years! Thank you for opening your home to us all.
I’m looking forward to celebrating with the 'ohana. I will have lemon bars for dessert.
